after seeing the lego models of the 8-bit versions of mario, luigi, bowser, kirby, sonic and such done by
 , i thought i should give it a try! and this took me about 2-3 hours just trying to find the right lego peices and so on. mario was easy, but sonic was a problem. i was running low on lego peices to design sonic from sonic the hedgehog (1991 game gear version). but i didn't enough peices, so i rememberd downloading a hack of SMB1 called "sonic bros", then this came to me and i made sonic!
